How to Get to Icon Siam Bangkok — BTS, Shuttle Boat, River & Taxi Guide

Getting to Icon Siam is part of the experience. The mall sits on the Thonburi (west) bank of the Chao Phraya River — which means you’re crossing the river to get there, and that river crossing by shuttle boat is one of the better five minutes you’ll spend in Bangkok. Here’s every option explained.

Option 1: BTS Skytrain + Free Shuttle Boat (Best Route)

This is the route most visitors take and for good reason — it’s fast, cheap, reliable and the shuttle boat is genuinely enjoyable.

Step by Step

  1. Take the BTS Silom Line to Samphan Taskin station (S6)
  2. Exit via Exit 2 toward the river (follow signs for “Sathorn Pier” or “Central Pier”)
  3. Walk down to the pier — it’s about 2 minutes from the station exit
  4. Look for the Icon Siam shuttle boat boarding area (separate from the public express boats — usually to the left of the main pier)
  5. Board the free shuttle boat. No ticket needed. The boat runs every 10–15 minutes.
  6. The crossing takes approximately 5 minutes
  7. You arrive at the Icon Siam riverside pier, which connects directly to the ground floor of the mall

BTS Journey Times to Saphan Taksin

FromBTS TimeTotal (inc. boat)
Siam~8 mins~20 mins
Asok~15 mins (change at Siam)~25 mins
Sala Daeng / Silom~5 mins~15 mins
Mo Chit (Chatuchak)~25 mins~35 mins
National Stadium~12 mins~22 mins

BTS fare to Saphan Taksin: 17–44 THB depending on starting station. Shuttle boat: free.

Option 2: Chao Phraya Express Boat

If you’re already on the river — coming from the Grand Palace area, Khao San Road (Phra Arthit pier), or the temple district — the Chao Phraya Express Boat is your direct option.

  • Orange flag boats stop at Icon Siam Pier (marked N0 or CEN on the river route)
  • Yellow flag tourist boats also serve this stop
  • Fare: 15 THB (orange flag local boats)
  • Journey from Phra Arthit (Khao San): approximately 20–25 minutes
  • Journey from Grand Palace (Chang pier): approximately 10 minutes

The express boats can get crowded at peak times and they move fast — hold on when boarding and alighting.

Option 3: Grab or Metered Taxi

By car is simple but can be slow, especially in the evening.

  • Tell your driver: “Icon Siam, Charoen Nakhon Road, Khlong San”
  • From Sukhumvit area: 30–60 minutes depending on traffic. Around 150–250 THB on Grab.
  • From Silom/Sathorn: 20–35 minutes. Around 80–150 THB.
  • From Siam/Ratchaprasong: 25–45 minutes. Around 120–200 THB.
  • Peak hours (5pm–8pm weekdays): Add significantly to the above estimates. The BTS + boat is faster at peak.

Always use Grab (Thailand’s Uber equivalent) rather than hailing a street taxi — fare is fixed at booking, no meter disputes.

Getting Back from Icon Siam

The shuttle boat back to Sathorn Pier runs until around 10:30pm (slightly after the mall closes). After 10pm, Grab tends to be the easiest option if you’re returning to Sukhumvit or Silom.

If you’re staying nearby, several riverside hotels run their own hotel shuttle boats to and from the mall — check with your hotel on arrival.

Where to Stay Near Icon Siam

If you’re planning multiple visits or want to use Icon Siam as a base for exploring the Chao Phraya riverside neighbourhood, staying nearby is well worth it. The riverside hotels in Charoen Nakhon offer Bangkok’s best river views and the Capella, Avani+ Riverside and Chatrium are all within minutes of the mall by foot or hotel boat.
